I chose this piece by Chopin that is directly related to western music. This piece relates directly to the module topic because it is one of the most known and famous pieces to come out of the western music era. The western music era started in Europe between the 1800 and 1900. This piece was created in France and published in 1832. He created pieces that resembled the night. Chopin was a part of the romantic era of music that was a subcategory in western music. He created and dedicated this piano song to Marie Moke-Pleye, a pianist.  This piece in particular was created to represent a romantic night and it has beautiful meaning to people and played a lot for romantic dances and scenes like weddings. To me it shows the beautiful relationship between 2 people when they're in love  and that is why I chose this piece because of the meaning behind it. This song shows the meaning of love by the different elements of music. Its melody is wave-like and has a static range that shows the highs and lows of relationships; it follows an A, A, B, A, B, A melody and repeats this throughout the song. It has an unarticulated beat and a nice consonant harmony between the 2 different sounds the piano is playing and creates a great rhythm for free dancing at a wedding or a romantic night in Rome under the lights. It has a changing tempo which goes from slow to quick creating a very happy feeling of starting a relationship and falling in love. This sound has a  All of these elements together to create a very beautiful song that gives off the impression of happiness and love. This song is also associated with the famous Starry Night Painting by Van Gogh in 1889 because they were both big creators in the romantic era.

For my next piece I chose Tiny Dancer by Elton John. This piece directly relates to the module topic because it checks off every box of music terminology that we have learned about in the modules. Elton John and Bernie Taupin composed and released this song in the 1970's which was the peak of disco and indie music. This song is considered to be soft rock/alternative and is a very popular song still known today. And was remixed by Britney Spears and Elton John in 2022. I chose this song because of the significance it has to me and many others. It connects kids today and their parents from the 70’s. For me, this song is what got me interested in listening to older songs from the 70’s and 80’s and brought me and my mom a lot closer through music. This song was written to capture the feel of California in the 70’s and explains Bernie meeting the love of his life  and soon to be wife when he and Elton John first came to the states in the 70’s. The melody of this song consists of a wave-like contour and a stepwise range. It starts off slow and gradually gets louder and repeats till the end of the song. This creates the effect of happiness and gives you a feeling of the highs you get being in California in the 70s. The rhythm of this song is 4 beats and it has a Quadruple meter. It has a polyphony texture consisting of Elton singing, the instruments, and background singers singing in harmony. There is a harmony which creates a very chill and happy feeling when listening to this song. The tempo is slow so when people listen to this song it is still upbeat due to the pitch of Elton's voice but it is more relaxing and chill to listen to. The dynamics of this song change very frequently from quiet to soft. The timbre of this song is raspy and mellow which gives you the vibes of California in the 70's. ANd the instruments in this song consist of a piano, guitar, orchestra, and drums.
